Federation of University Students (FEU, by its Spanish acronym)

The FEU is a non-gouvernmental organization that groups up the cuban and foreign university students who take their rules willingly.

This is an independent organization built up by brigades( main cell in each student group) represented by a principal  in the boards of the FEU in the different schools and in the institute. They are lead by a president and two vice-presidents which are elected once in a year by the students.

Students carry out their extracurricular and social activities led by FEU. It represents them through their presidents and group leaders in the different kinds of meetings. Students integrate to the solution  of economic and social needs of our country, through the study, work and scientific investigations, which are key aspects in the work of the Students Organization.

Currently, students develop several tasks as part of the Colossal Battle of Ideas of our country. Thus, they give support to the construction of social works, higher education for all programs and other changes in the Cuban Educational and Health systems.

The Cujae covers an area of 4.284.036,35 ft², where the residence, considered to be of top level in the country, constitutes an important place. It comprises dormitories, diners, caffeterias, a dispensary with medical and estomatologic attention and a full-time ambulance service, laboratories, bookstore, among other social facilities.

The residence also includes accomodation for foreign students and other facilities that contribute to a more confortable stay, such as services from specialized staff of this area. Such staff is incharge, among other things, of controlling systematically the school performance of each student, carrying out medical checkups, revising and updating documents, besides promoting the celebration of holydays of each country, which favors an environment of cooperation, solidarity and mutual respect among the 2311 scholars.

The Residence Hall is an open space for participation and dialogue in cultural, recreative, sport and social work activities scheduled by the Vice-chancellor´s office of the University Extension. Such events contribute to the integration of all the univesity community.

PRINCIPALSHIP OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SPORTS AND RECREATION

 The physical training teaching has a vigorous sports movement with representative teams in 20 sports and endorsed by it medals in defense of the colors of the University.

This teaching has a staff made up of higher level specialists with a more than 25 year experience. The teaching categories rank from auxiliar teachers to Masters and Doctors. The mayority of them have been members of national teams with remarkable careers and sports merits.

 Among its tasks, we find: working as Comissionates and offering technical support in different sports branches and specialties in Cuba and abroad; just as they have done in different countries of the area, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Furthermore, they celebrate competitions and scientific activities with national and international universities( Alcalá de Henares, Autónoma de México and High Studies Institutes of Canadá).

Sport games “13 de Marzo”

The sport games “13 de Marzo” are a great sports event of this university. They owe their name to the happenings of March 13^th, 1957, when a group of students from the Federation of University Students (FEU, by its Spanish acronym) attacked the Presidential Palace and took the radio station Radio Reloj. Thus, they tried to shorten the victory of the revolutionary struggle lead by Fidel Castro. Despite these events were not totally successful, they contributed decisively to the popular consciousness and unity. There, the great mayority of the young participants died, such as José Antonio Echeverría, who was shot on 27st street, beside the main staircase of the University of Havana.

In the games “13 de Marzo” the students from the seven schools of the Institute participate massively and enthusiastically to decide, through a competition with solidarity, who the champions will be. The ones with the best results are comprised in the teams that represent the Institute  in the provincial, local, and national University Games; and also in Championships and Cups in different sports.

The games show a tremendous opening and closing ceremonies and they favor a close exxhange with Cuban sports personalities.

Principalship of University Extension.

Arts and communication are developed in the Principalship of University Extension. This is one of the main aspects of work of the Cuban Higher Education, which is constantly evolving and tries to have its fitting  place. Its fitting place as an educational process of integration. It promotes culture both in and out the community and it changes its social environment; it guides the recreation and restates the identity values in a harmonious balance and correspondance to our political and ideological approach. Among its responsabities, there are the following:

• To organize the Extension taking into account the school process.
• To broaden the alternatives for the cultural beating of the University professionals and the citizens in general.
• To promote the scientific results and the technological innovations, and also the extracurricular activities, which goes in favor of the highest development of students.
• To boost the creation and performance of cultural university institutions.
• To increase the creation of extensive projects, by stimulating the investigation in this area with the introduction and generalization of its results.
• To develop an internal and external system of communication to make possibe the dialogue and participation, besides the spreading of all the daily works in the university and the community.
• To implement the spreading of national and international educational campaigns.

 The Cujae has consolidated as a reference center because of its results in the University Extension. It shows a massive Amateur Artists Movement both in the workers and the students spheres; they are 18 institutions with important prizes at the institutional, provincial, and national levels in music, theater, dance, plastic arts, and literature. Besides, this Management offers six courses on Artistic Education to engineers and architects, thus contributing to a much more diverse cutural heritage.

 The actions in the program comprise the University Fora of Science and Technology and the ones of History and Pedagogy. Every time, they get more and more recognized because of their organization, rigor, and prizes for its resuts. The promotion activities are held systematically and they include in their schedule from talks, workshops, and literary contests to performances, concerts, plastic arts exhibitions, film premiers, dancings, and other forms of individual and group creation.

 The Cujae develops more than 70 socio- cutural community projects. Twelve honorable faculties have been created in order to study and record the work of prestigious personalities and their integration to the present.

 Our six faculties, specially the Faculty of Overage Adults have incorporated the University Extension to their educational process. This is shown throuhg the work of students and teachers who are incorporated to different institutions, enterprises and industries, and develop their investigations by giving answers to social needs. Thus, we have the revival and urban development projects in neighborhoods of the city; the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of buildings; studies about the environment; treatment and use of residuals; facilitation of computer courses fo the community, and also the creation of web pages for libraries and sites of municipalities; besides the educational softwares applicable to different kinds of teaching.

 Communications continue to evolve in the Center after the implementation of the TIC. As an example we have a well-known Intranet and more than 25 websites of the different areas. Six magazines about engineering and architecture are edited; also an oficial report: Dimensión; digital TV news are updated with all the current university life; and there is an increasing email system. All these aspects contribute to have a higher flow of information and to interact with the community, allowing an ambiance of dialogue, participation and comprehension of the actions in order to share common goals.

La Facultad de Ingeniería Civil de Instituto Superior Politécnico "José Antonio Echeverría" le da la más cordial bienvenida y los invita a conocer sobre la actividad académica, investigativa y extensionista de trabajadores, profesores y estudiantes.

La Facultad dirige las carreras de Ingeniería Civil, Hidráulica y Geofísica y cuenta con tres programas de Maestría acreditados y dos de Doctorado Curricular Colaborativo. Desarrolla la actividad investigativa a través del Departamento de Geociencias y dos centros. El Centro de Investigaciones Hidráulicas (CIH) y el Centro de Estudios de Construcción y Arquitectura Tropical (CECAT).

El Decano

Es un alto honor para la Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica, la selección por ustedes, de las carreras de Ingeniería Mecánica e Ingeniería Metalúrgica y Materiales. Largo ha sido el camino para llegar hasta este recinto universitario, que los acoge como ilustres jóvenes para su formación profesional.

El claustro de la facultad posee en su composición el  40 % de Doctores en Ciencias Técnicas, y el  15 % de Máster, lo que unido a sus Planes de Estudio y a la asimilación demostrada de sus estudiantes han posibilitado que la carrera de Ingeniería Mecánica haya adquirido la condición de acreditada de Excelencia en junio del 2003, ratificando esta condición en Julio de 2011. Por tanto, es un compromiso para nosotros su formación integral y continua para contribuir de forma significativa al desarrollo sostenible de la sociedad cubana.

Les doy  la mas cordial bienvenida y los invito a participar, junto a este claustro y a través del proceso de formación, en la tareas de investigación, desarrollo e innovación que poseemos, en interacción con las OACE. La Facultad de Arquitectura en cinco años de pregrado garantiza la formación de un profesional de amplio perfil, capaz de insertarse en labores de proyectos desde la escala urbana hasta el diseño de interiores, tanto en obras nuevas como en la conservación del patrimonio arquitectónico y urbano, así como en la ejecución de obras y la gestión de inversiones.

La facultad de Informática forma a profesionales que tienen como objeto el desarrollo de sistemas informáticos  . Este profesional de sólida formación técnica y tecnológica, se ocupa de los procesos de captación, transmisión, almacenamiento, tratamiento y presentación de la información, mediante el uso eficiente de las computadoras y otros medios técnicos.

Nuestra facultad, fundada en Septiembre de 2007, es la facultad más joven del Instituto Superior Politécnico José Antonio Echeverría, surgida a partir de la evolución del Centro de Estudios de Ingeniería y Sistemas (CEIS).

En nuestro ambiente surgió el 19 de Abril de 1970, la carrera de Ingeniería en Sistemas Automatizados que dio lugar a la carrera actual.

En esta Facultad se estudia la Ingeniería Química y  los estudiantes egresan con los conocimientos y habilidades necesarios que les permiten evaluar las capacidades de producción de las industrias, planificar y controlar la operación de equipos y plantas, así como optimizar el funcionamiento de complejos industriales. También están preparados para diseñar equipos, realizar anteproyectos tecnológicos, dirigir procesos productivos, además de controlar y ajustar los parámetros operacionales dentro del proceso de producción de la industria química.
